    Jack received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Carolina University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jack started competitive swimming at a young age and competed as an NCAA Division I swimmer at East Carolina University. Since starting CrossFit over five years ago, Jack has found that he’s stronger and in better cardiovascular shape than when he was swimming four to five hours a day.

    Jack has been large part of the local CrossFit Community since 2008 and is excited to help others achieve CrossFit success.

daveDave Rubin

    Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from The George Washington University. He competed on a nationally-ranked co-ed cheerleading squad during college, but has since traded partner stunts and pyramids for cleans, snatches, and pullups….lots and lots of pullups. After nearly 20 years of weight training, CrossFit showed him what fitness is really all about.

    After spending nearly 15 years in the traditional commercial fitness industry in major markets like New York and Washington, DC, 11 of those with the biggest “big box” gym there is, Dave became a partner, and then sole owner, of CrossFit Durham in Downtown Durham. He is excited to bring a second location to Durham and share his passion for CrossFit, and the real fitness it brings, to anyone who wants to listen.

    Ryan received his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies for Elementary Education from James Madison University (JMU). He started competitive soccer at U-9 and played competitively through High School. Since starting CrossFit 3 years ago, Ryan has enjoyed the journey of fitness and gainz :).

    Teaching is a huge passion of mine, excited to help others learn more about CrossFit and overall fitness.

AceAce Adamson

    Ace is a current Doctor of Physical Therapy student at Duke University. He received his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Utah Valley University after studying Dietetics and Exercise at Oklahoma State University where he competed on the wrestling team.

    Ace grew up playing multiple sports, but chose to focus his efforts on wrestling in high school. After suffering a shoulder injury and two knee injuries during collegiate wrestling, Ace decided to focus his efforts on academics and prepare for a career in Physical Therapy. He started CrossFit in Utah to stay fit and competitive after ending his wrestling career. He enjoys assessing movement and experimenting with different training modalities.

    During his free time he enjoys exercising and experiencing the outdoors with his wife Ally and his son Caden.

AllieAllie Boulton

    Allie received her Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and International Studies from Meredith College in Raleigh. Allie grew up in Chapel Hill and played competitive soccer growing up. Allie is a Wellness Director for the Durham YMCA where she teaches classes and does personal training. Crossfit has help fill a void in her life of competition and teamwork. She loves meeting new members and making new friends through working out.

    In her spare time she loves traveling, tailgating and hanging out with her furry friends Patton and Callaway.

    Ben received his bachelors in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University (hour north of Pittsburgh). As a childhood athlete He was fortunate enough to qualify for the Junior Olympics in 2004 and compete in college in Track and Field as well as ultimate frisbee. Ben became tired/bored of miles and miles of running.

    Searching for something new, he found CrossFit in 2012 and has never looked back. You will frequently find Ben singing anything from Taylor Swift to Eminem while swinging from his muscles ups. Ben is always up for a race and challenge (especially when they involve handstand walks....not). He loves the daily challenges and enjoys helping others through their own.

    Ben is exited to be apart of BCCF and is hopeful someone will join him in his sing alongs.

    Devin graduated from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 2013 with a BS in Health and Wellness promotion and K-6 Elementary Education license. She spent a majority of her college career working with youth to promote positive self esteem in various after school programs.

    Quickly after starting CrossFit in 2011, she understood how valuable the program was to promoting positive self image for people of all ages and found a new passion in coaching. Now a second grade teacher at Little River Elementary School, she enjoys incorporating healthy living and leadership practices in the classroom.

    Devin is excited to continue coaching at a BCCF and inspire people to both challenge and balance themselves in the CrossFit community.

lucasLucas Beal

    Lucas received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from Elon University School of Law. Lucas grew up competitively swimming in Winston-Salem and still has a love for the water. While in law school, Lucas discovered a love of long distance running as a way to stay fit and relieve stress. In 2014, Lucas tried CrossFit while recovering from a brutal marathon training season and was instantly hooked. The constantly varied functional movement has not only allowed him to become stronger but has helped his cardiovascular fitness. CrossFit assisted Lucas in shaving over 20 minutes from his marathon PR. In 2015, Lucas received his CrossFit Level 1 Certification.

    BCCF has been the only CrossFit Box he has been a member of and he is excited to assist both newcomers and regulars with any fitness goals they may have. Lucas is also always up for a pool WOD!

    When not at the gym or his "day job", Lucas enjoys spending time with his wife Meg and Daughter Betsy preferably at the pool or beach.

jackMatt Drown

    Matt earned a bachelors degree in Communication and Masters in Education from the University of Southern Maine, just an hour from where he grew up.

    After spending most of his childhood as a "band geek" his athletic interests began on the back of a horse where he spent several years competing in eventing, an equestrian triathlon, and then in the breed of miniature horses. He competed at a local and regional level and was lucky enough to qualify for the American Eventing Championships, and compete the miniature horses at the national and world level. In 2009 he started running on a quest to lose weight, and has never looked back.

    Matt started CrossFit in 2014 after buying a groupon on a whim in hopes of increasing his running speed and stamina. It was the best decision he could have made. Since starting at BCCF, he has gotten both stronger and faster. He has a passion for endurance and regularly competes in road races, triathlons, and obstacle races.

    Matt has worked with youth for many years as a swim coach, horseback riding instructor, teacher, and camp director. He is excited to launch the the CrossFit Kids and Endurance programs at BCCF and a has a personal goal of converting some of the running haters to running lovers!

mattshiverMatt Shiver

    Matt is a current Doctor of Physical Therapy student at Duke University. He received his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and minored in Nutritional Studies from Appalachian State University.


    While at Appalachian, Matt co-founded Appalachian State’s Olympic Weightlifting Club and directed two Olympic Weightlifting Competitions. After graduating from Appalachian, he trained for 16 weeks to compete in his first NPC Bodybuilding show. He loves to combine his experiences from all of the iron sports to help people get strong and improve their body composition.

    During his free time you will see him reading, watching movies, and drinking tons of coffee.

monicaMonica Mazzoli

    Monica holds a BA in English from Villanova University and a MA in Renaissance Literature from the University of York. She grew up doing ballet and equestrian and started running for whilein college.

    Monica first tried CrossFit Bootcamps in 2012, but unfortunately there were no boxes where she lived in England while attending graduate school. After returning to Durham for work in 2014, she immediately looked for a CrossFit gym and found Bull City. Monica loved both the workouts and the supportive community that is at the core of Bull City CrossFit. She is excited to welcome newcomers to the gym and help all members reach their highest potential.

    Monica is completing a MHA at the University of North Carolina and when not at the gym enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and drinking local beer!

norahNorah Cetin

    Norah received her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois in 2013 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Duke University in 2016.

    Norah grew up a competitive athlete and has always loved challenging herself physically and mentally. CrossFit has allowed her to continue to challenge herself and grow as an athlete. As a coach, Norah loves to help others challenge themselves to do what they never thought possible.

    Norah has been a part of the BCCF community since 2014 and loves the encouraging and supportive atmosphere that can be felt from the second you step into the gym!

Rachael Zdeb

    Rachael received her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology from Mississippi State University in 2014, where she also played softball for the Bulldogs for 4 years. Rachael is currently getting her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Duke University and will graduate in May of 2017.

    Rachael is originally from Kansas and grew up playing softball, basketball and volleyball. Her and her family have always had a passion for sports and fitness. Rachael found Bull City CrossFit in August 2015, looking for something to feed her competitive spirit and has not looked back since. In her spare time if she’s not at the gym, you can find her drinking coffee, reading research articles or wishing she was at the gym.

    Tara received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Emory University and began competitively rowing at the age of 14. She continued to row competitively in college, and began coaching the sport while racing in her single after graduating.

    Tara first became introduced to CrossFit during her college summers when attempting to maintain fitness while removed from the team atmosphere. She moved to Durham in 2013 for graduate school at Duke University, and decided to get re-connected with the CrossFit community. Tara is excited to share her passion for health and fitness with others.

Taylor Smith

    Taylor Smith received his BA in Religion and Philosophy from McMurry University in Abilene, TX. He is currently pursing a Masters of Divinity at Duke Divinity School. In conjunction with his degree, Taylor is pursuing ordination as an Elder in the United Methodist Church.

    Taylor played baseball throughout high school, swam a little in college, but always remained active in intramural sports. However, it wasn’t until he walked into a Crossfit gym three years ago that he found his perfect balance of intensity, technique, and strength. Today, Taylor and his wife Katie work out together, though he claims to know better than to try and coach her.

    Taylor enjoys Crossfit for the wholistic balance it gives to his life — a life he seeks to share with others. “What’s the point of leading a fun, friendly lifestyle if you’re too lazy and out of shape to do actually do anything with your neighbors.”

    His favorite movements are pretty much anything gymnastic, but has been known to plow through some cleans. He’s always up for a challenge, because he admittedly doesn’t have the will-power to push himself. Hence, Crossfit!

    Tom earned a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Adelphi University, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the State University at Albany, an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems from Truman College-City Colleges of Chicago, and an Associate in Science in Business Administration from Schenectady County Community College.

    Growing up, Tom was involved in organized Baseball, Bowling, Basketball, Boxing, and Track. Tom is experienced with CrossFit, Trail Running, Stadium and Tower Running, Middle-Long Distance Running, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Indoor Rock Climbing, Bodyweight Training, Core-specific Training, and Rotation/TVA-specific Training.

    Tom has been a part of the local CrossFit Community since 2013. His coaching goals are to provide athletes with the inspiration and the tools they need to improve and optimize their Fitness, Wellness, and Confidence. He is a Movement Specialist Journeyman and his coaching philosophy is to employ safe, varied movement and 'sweat equity' in a fun environment in order to optimize the CrossFit experience!

trentTrent Williams

    Trent received his Bachelors of Arts in Economics from Sewanee: The University of the South. While attending Sewanee, Trent was a four-year letterman and a captain on the men’s basketball team. He also met his wife Logan, who was a member of the women’s basketball team.

    Following undergrad, Trent moved to Memphis to pursue a JD/MBA at the University of Memphis. Trent knew the necessity staying active during graduate school, but didn’t find anything fun and competitive to replace the basketball court until his second year when he started researching CrossFit. After a few weeks, he and his wife Logan were hooked and dedicated their garage to a fully functioning gym. Trent then got his Level I Certificate and began training friends, classmates, and anybody else looking for a challenge.

    Trent and his wife Logan recently moved to Durham as Logan began her OB/GYN residency. Having been a collegiate athlete, basketball coach, and CrossFit trainer for years, Trent enjoys pushing himself and others to achieve their goals while having fun within the Bull City community.
