When did you first start CrossFitting?: February 2014
What is your favorite movement? Favorite workout? My favorite movements (aside from running) are handstand skills and slam ball work. My favorite workouts are Murph and Annie.
What is your least favorite movement? Least favorite workout? I hate squats! My least favorite workout so far has been Karen.
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: For several years I have been a runner, mostly competing in road races (5ks through marathons) with some local mud run/obstacle type races. I also participated in group fitness type classes at the YMCA, such as bootcamp.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go? I was introduced to CrossFit through a friend who invited me to try a class in Chapel Hill with him. I don’t remember the name of my first WOD but it was an AMRAP that included box jumps, push jerks, and toes-to-bar. It was a tough workout but I loved it!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I’ve definitely developed muscle in places I’ve never had muscle before. My overall strength and stamina are much better and most importantly (and why I started CrossFit to begin with) my running times have improved greatly. CrossFit has also helped me get stronger so that I am more successful at obstacle races (Spartan Races). The increase in my fitness has inspired me to take on other challenges, such as triathlons. I have successfully completed two olympic distances triathlons now, and I credit much of that success to the strength and stamina I’ve developed at CrossFit.
What is your favorite CrossFit/BCCF moment? I have several. Climbing the rope for the first time. The playing card workout when kipping pullups finally clicked. Finally getting my snatch right! Jack makes every workout great, though! He’s the reason I’ve stayed, because without great coaching and encouragement I surely would have quit.
What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit? Do it! Give it a month, make yourself go, and
you’ll be hooked.
What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love running! I also swim and compete in triathlons and obstacle races. I enjoy horseback riding, relaxing at the beach, and visiting aquariums too!
